 READING TEST

SQ3R stands for SURVEY-QUESTION-READ-RECITE-REVIEW

It is a comprehension strategy that facilitates students to think about the text they are reading but at the same time they are reading. This strategy helps students by teaching them how to read and think like an effective reader.

Survey ---> Preview

Question ---> Ask a question

Read ---> Read for meaning

Recite ---> Test for yourself

Review ---> Review after you read

Survey- After you have surveyed the material, you should know generally what it is about and how it organized. Reflect on what you already know about the subject. Make a list of everything that you know (Brainstorm)

Question- Try to form questions that you can answer as you read. If you are auditory learner,  you can ask and answer guide questions aloud or tape-recording them. For visual learner, writing guide questions and their answers can help you.

Read- Read the materials, section by section. As you read, look for the answer to the question you formed from the heading of that section.

Recite- Look for answers to the questions you formed during your preview of the text. These questions, based on the structure of the text, help focus students reading.

Review- When you finish the whole reading, go back to each heading. Recall your questions and try to answer it. If you can't find the answer again and test yourself back.
